Back in 2021 local high School student, Will Caolo approached us looking for help creating Cape Cod’s first Legal Street Art wall.

After two years of administrative labor, numerous letters of support from the community, and many who came to speak on behalf of the wall before the Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic Commission, The Hyannis Community Art Wall has found a home on the Hyannis Public Library! This wall features work by local art legend Joey Mars and has open space for community members to add to.

What is a Legal Street Art Wall?

A Legal Street Art Wall is a wall that is open to all to spray paint, draw on, and stick up art when and how they feel moved to do so. The wall provides a medium for and amplifies the voices of artists that are not typically be included in the public arts sphere on Cape Cod. It provides a living exhibition space that can be built upon by professional and amateur artists alike. This particular wall is open during library hours and is BYOP (bring your own paint).

Thank you to the Hyannis Public Library for hosting the wall, the JFK Museum for defending why our community needs it, and MassDevelopment for funding.
