You are invited to the 3rd Annual Cordial Eye Ball!
Join us for the 3rd annual Cordial Eye Ball! Our yearly gala honors the celebration of Día de Muertos and will be an artful evening of music, food, and connection. Our community ofrenda will be installed, the dance floor will be open, and -best of all- our Cordial Eye Ball piñata will be making an appearance, with chances for you to win lots of exciting goodies!
This celebration will open “Wish You Were Here” an annual exhibition honoring the works of artists from our community who have passed.
All proceeds from the Ball will support TCE’s crucial work, including opportunities for artists, programs for community learners, vital community third spaces, and using culture to create a more equitable Cape Cod.
Tickets are $50, with an option to buy a ticket for an artist in our community to celebrate with us!
When: Saturday, November 1st, 6-8:30pm
Where: The Cordial Eye- 438 Main St, Hyannis
Tickets: $50/each- Consider buying a ticket to sponsor an artist!
Community Ofrenda: For a donation of $35, we will honor a loved one of your choosing in our community ofrenda- an installation that honors and names those who have passed on.
This year’s Ball will feature Wish You Were Here, an art installation exhibiting the work of local artists who have passed on, honoring their legacies, holding space for all they aren’t here to do, and envisioning a future for Cape Cod that supports long and healthy lives for the whole community. Would you like to honor a loved one who has passed on? Consider making a donation in their honor to contribute to our postcard-inspired community ofrenda.
An ofrenda is a home altar, often decorated with photos, flowers, and other significant familial symbols, to honor those who have died. For a donation of $35, we will create a piece of art honoring your loved one, which will be installed in our community ofrenda for the month of November. After you donate, we will reach out to gather some information about your person (their name, your message to them, an optional photo!).
Some information on Dia de Muertos:
Dia de Muertos is a holiday deeply rooted in Mexican culture, spanning back to the days of the indigenous Aztec empire, and currently celebrated all over the world, by people of many ethnicities and religious traditions, but especially throughout South and Central America.
Dia de Muertos is NOT Mexican Halloween. Although the two holidays are in close date proximity, Dia de Muertos is a distinct celebration. It is not culturally appropriate to dress up in the traditional dress/make-up of Dia de Muertos as a Halloween costume.
Dia de Muertos is a joyful celebration. This holiday is a loving commemoration of those who have passed, as well as a reminder that life and death can happily coexist. We hold space for the many ways that different people and cultures think about mortality and look forward to amplifying and taking part in this one.
